Terms of Service

1. Who this applies to

These Terms govern use of the U-verify API, the U-verify developer portal, and any hosted verification page or public search tool operated by U-verify ("the Service"). There are two categories of user:

  • Developers / Clients — anyone who registers a project, receives API

credentials, and integrates the Service into their own application.

  • End Users — members of the public who complete a hosted verification

flow or use the public search tool, typically at a Client's request or on their own behalf.

2. What the Service does

U-verify verifies Nigerian identity documents and data points (NIN, BVN, driver's licence, voter's card, international passport, CAC/company records, and facial/liveness checks) by querying third-party identity providers and government-backed data sources. U-verify does not issue, own, or control any underlying government identity database — it is a verification intermediary.

3. Developer accounts

  • Registration creates a sandbox account with a reduced monthly quota.

Sandbox credentials are inert until the registrant verifies their email address.

  • Production access (higher quota, live usage) requires a separate

request describing your business and intended use case, and is granted at U-verify's discretion following manual review. U-verify may decline or revoke production access for any account it reasonably believes is fraudulent, abusive, or being used to validate identities the requester has no lawful basis to check.

  • You are responsible for safeguarding your api_secret. It must never be

embedded in a mobile app, browser JavaScript, or any client-side code — see the Acceptable Use Policy §2.

  • You may not resell, sublicense, or provide unrestricted third-party access

to your API credentials.

4. End users

If you complete a hosted verification page or use the public search tool, you are confirming — as a condition of using the Service — that you have a lawful basis to request that check, per the consent notice shown at the point of submission. See the Privacy Policy for what happens to your data.

5. Fees

Developer accounts are billed per-check against a prepaid wallet balance, at rates shown in the developer dashboard. Public search and hosted verification end users are charged, where applicable, the fee shown before payment via Paystack; U-verify does not store card details (handled entirely by Paystack).

6. Disclaimers

The Service reports what a queried identity source returns; U-verify does not guarantee that source data is accurate, current, or error-free, and is not liable for decisions a Client or end user makes based on a verification result. The Service is provided "as is" during this pre-launch phase.

7. Termination

U-verify may suspend or terminate any account that violates these Terms or the Acceptable Use Policy, with or without notice, particularly where continued access would create legal or safety risk.

8. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, subject to final confirmation by counsel.

9. Contact

Questions about these Terms: see the support contact listed in the developer docs or mobile app.
